Neaves & Gillespie, P.A. traces its beginnings to Charles M. Neaves, Sr. (1920 - 1983), who began practicing law in Elkin, North Carolina in 1948, and who over the course of his career was also a district attorney and a superior court judge. James D. Gillespie joined the firm in 1980, upon graduation from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in Alabama. Regina R. Gillespie graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1993 and opened her own firm in 1995. James and Regina married in 1998 and in 2006 they merged their respective firms into Neaves & Gillespie, P.A.

The firm has expanded its capabilities for representing clients in northwest North Carolina to offices in Elkin, Dobson, Yadkinville and Sparta.
